Sometimes you find natural crops in the real world. Many of these are man-made constructs creating windows onto the world in which we are photographing. If you are aware enough to spot these subtle gems, great photographs will often result.
I shot this 3:1 Panorama of a Ringed Turtle Dove this morning. The bird was sitting on a porch rail and beneath another porch rail. The angle of view of the lens coupled with the geometry of the porch conspired to create a natural 3 by 1 panorama.
Here, in the uncropped version, you can see the two porch rails and how the actual crop is formed in-scene and in-camera.
There are natural (and manmade) crops all around us. These elements will help your compositions by framing the subject effectively and drawing our eyes to the subject within the crop.
